Pekka Pylkkänen, born in 1964, is a renowned saxophonist and composer who has established himself as one of the strongest jazz artists and saxophonists in Europe. His musical talent has taken him around the world, where he has had great success not only in Europe but also in Asia and the Americas. Collaborating with numerous prestigious artists in many countries, he continues to work as a soloist, recording artist, and educator, performing in clubs, concert halls, and major festivals across more than 70 countries in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa.
His appearances as a soloist and/or leader cover more than 2000 concerts, many of which on major festivals such as Hong Kong Jazz Festival, Beijing Jazz Festival, Trondheim Jazz Festival, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, National Arts Festival (South Africa), Providencia Festival de Jazz (Santiago, Chile), Yokohama Jazz Promenade, Yarasum Jazz Festival, Beijing Concert Hall, Pescara Jazz, Thailand Int. Jazz Conference etc. But as well he has performed at the groundbreaking Pori Jazz Festival and April Jazz Festival plus numerous others in his home country.
Recently Pekka had a very succesful tour in North-Africa where he performed in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. His busy schedule wil cover concerts and tours in 2024 only in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brazil, Japan, France, Albania, Italy, China, Hong Kong and Mexico.
Early in his career, Pekka worked for several years with the National Jazz Orchestra of Finland - UMO Jazz Orchestra, where he performed modern contemporary music and often featured as a soloist.
Aside from his performing and composing career, Pekka has also made significant contributions as an educator, holding several full-time positions in Finland and conducting clinics and master classes in over 80 music universities, conservatories, and colleges worldwide. He has also been invited as an Artist-In-Residence in dozens of occasions in Finland, Italy, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brazil, Portugal, Sweden and The Netherlands and has led numerous Summer Jazz Seminars in Italy as the artistic head.
